Funded by the Eric & Wendy Schmidt Strategic Fund for Innovation, this Science Fellows Award aims to support groundbreaking leaders of the future.
To be eligible applicants need to present a genuine and innovative Ph.D. study that promises a great reward to the community.
Selection of this University of Toronto scholarship is also based on character, leadership, and the global ambition for social good.
Candidates applying for the 2023 cohort must have completed, or expect to complete, all the requirements for the conferral of their PhD, including a successful defense, between 01 June 2022 and 30 July 2023.
Conferral is taken to mean all official requirements have been met to enable your PhD awarding institution to confirm that you may use a PhD title.
Accordingly, the scholarship board do not require the graduation ceremony to have taken place, but candidates must have submitted and defended their thesis and be able to provide formal proof that all requirements are met for the PhD.
It is worthy to note that Fellows are not allowed to receive any awards or remuneration from other organizations concurrent with the Fellowship.
Also note that Supplementary funding for research and other professional development is allowed and encouraged.
This fellowship when approved a Fellow may also retain the title of another Fellowship during the Fellowship Year if personal remuneration is not accepted.
